Mark Llano, founder and chief executive of Wellington-based military goods provider Source One Distributors, recently finished 20th in his first IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama race.
Llano, who drove a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car in the race at Sebring International Raceway, has been racing for only eight months.
“The adrenalin was pumping the moment I stepped onto the paddock at Sebring,” said Llano, a former Marine who founded Source One in 2003. The company has more than 40 employees.
A University of South Florida graduate, Llano is a 2008 winner of the Sun-Sentinel Co.’s annual Excalibur Award, given to business leaders in South Florida who have distinguished themselves and contributed to improvement of the region’s communities.
Nominees are judged on three main criteria: ability to build and innovatively develop their company; ability to increase company profits or stock value for shareholders, enhance customer service or create jobs or career opportunities within their company; and contributions to the South Florida community, especially in their commitment to actively participate as a leader in charitable and civic groups.
Llano has raised money for injured Marines, counseled veterans on small business ownership and government contracting, and served on the Veterans Advisory Council, appointed by U.S. Rep. Tim Mahoney.
This year’s winners of the Excalibur Awards will be announced April 18.
