From the Halls of SERKET Racing to the Shores of Watkins Glen
June 25th, 2013
Wellington, Fla., (June 25, 2013) – The SERKET Racing team is ready to storm the shores of Watkins Glen International where the 100th event of the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama Series will take place this weekend at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen.
The historic Watkins Glen road course, located just off Seneca Lake, is known for being the first track to host a post-World War II road race event in the United States. Since then The Glen, as it is more commonly referred to as, has continued to support veterans of the U.S. military. Making the venue a perfect fit for Mark Llano and the SERKET Racing team’s mission.
SERKET Racing’s mission is to raise funds and awareness for the needs of military personnel and veterans, and The Glen has a long history of honoring the nation’s servicemen and women through ticket and hospitality packages to their feature events.
Driver and former Marine, Mark Llano, will celebrate race weekend and honor the many sacrifices that veterans and their families have made on behalf of our country by bringing his Porsche GT3 Cup program to The Glen’s Military and Veteran Appreciation Event. Llano will be signing autographs and taking pictures along side his Crye Precision MultiCam wrapped Porsche with over 2,000 military veterans and their families at the event located inside Turn 1.
“We are looking forward to meeting our best and bravest at the annual Watkins Glen veterans’ event,” Llano said. “We want to let them know that SERKET Racing is committed to making sure that their sacrifices do not go unnoticed.”
The Military and Veteran Event will take place on Sunday, June 30 with events starting at 8 a.m. The picnic includes a car corral, door prizes, children’s activities and an area for the veterans to get information on finding a new career and financial aid.
With recently acquired on-track experience at The Glen to fuel his drive, the former Marine is focused on his goal of celebrating his first win in the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama Series with all attending veterans and fans.
In a Porsche Club of America event earlier this month, Llano was able to steadily shed seconds off his time as he maneuvered around the 3.4-mile, 11-turn track known to many as the “Mecca of North American Road Racing.”
“We had a great practice run at The Glen with PCA a few weeks ago,” Llano said. “The Glen is a racetrack that has made an incredible impression upon the racing community and our team is very proud to have the opportunity to compete at this historic event and participate in the 100th IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge race on Saturday.”
On-track activities for the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama Series and GRAND-AM competitors at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen begin with testing on June 27 at 1:35 p.m. ET. For a full weekend schedule and more details visit the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama website.
