SERKET Racing Qualifies 16th at Watkins Glen

June 28th, 2013

Watkins Glen, N.Y., (June 28, 2013) – The SERKET Racing invasion of Watkins Glen International for the 100th race of the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge Series by Yokohama during the GRAND-AM Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen weekend began today with two practice sessions and late afternoon qualifications.

Driver and former Marine, Mark Llano, advanced his CRYE Precision MultiCam wrapped car to the 16th starting position out of the field of 32 entered Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars. Llano’s best time was 2:25.843 around the 3.4-mile, 11-turn historic road course.

Llano started the qualifying session in the penalty box, due to a double-checkered penalty incurred in the previous practice session. He fulfilled his penalty obligation by remaining in the pits for the first five minutes of qualifying. Once out on track, the Florida native had to carefully fight his way through the field to find a fast lap due to the inclement weather causing slippery track conditions.

“The five minute penalty in some capacity was good because it made me think about the track a little bit,” Llano said. “The track never really dried while we were out there, both the Boot and the Bus Stop were both incredibly slick. Overall, I think it was great to practice in the rain because we don’t know what will happen over the next two days.”

The fans at Watkins Glen will provide a special importance to Llano’s on-track performance over the next two days. The Glen hosts its annual Military and Veteran Appreciation Event Sunday, June 30, with over 2,000 military and veteran families in attendance. Llano and the SERKET Team are looking forward to joining them for an 11:30 a.m. ET meet-and-greet at the event located just outside Turn 1.

Mark Llano and SERKET Racing take the track tomorrow, June 29 at 1:05 p.m. ET for the 100th IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama race.
