SERKET Racing Stays in the Throttle and Builds Confidence and Momentum Both On and Off Track

June 30th, 2013

SERKET Racing’s Mark Llano was on full throttle both on and off the track at Watkins Glen International today for the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama 100th race weekend.

The SERKET Racing driver and former Marine finished in the 13th position overall in today’s race and set a personal best lap time of 1:57.810. The No. 24 car navigated a clean race today and avoided some minor on-track drama to improve upon his starting position of 14th. However, the former Marine’s race was far from easy as he found himself in a 3 way battle with Anthony Mantella of SpeedMerchants and Topp Racing’s David Baker.

“We had worked our way up to the 11th position but we had two cars behind us that were just running faster,” Llano said. “So I chose to take a more conservative approach into some of the corners. I wasn’t going to risk the car. But working with my NGT teammates on reading data last night helped us get our fastest lap today.”

And while the camouflage and orange schemed Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car attracted plenty of attention on the 3.4 mile, 11-turn road course today, SERKET Racing maintained their momentum off-track with the fans as well.

The former Marine was able to meet and inspire other veterans and military servicemen and women today at the Watkins Glen annual Military and Veteran Appreciation Event. Llano spent time talking with fans, signing autographs, and posing for pictures with his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car at the event.

As he interacted with the attendees the Florida native was able to inspire a young fan who is hoping to become a Marine, and after seeing Llano today, a Porsche GT3 Cup driver.

“I think everybody has the ability to go out and do what they want to do in life,” Llano said. “My grandfather used to tell me, ‘If you believe in who you are, you will become what you believe’. If the young boy has a dream to be a Marine or a race car driver he’ll be one. There should be nothing that stops him from becoming what he has a goal of becoming, nothing but himself. I believe in him.”

SERKET Racing and Mark Llano travel next to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park with the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama Series on July 19-21. To join in the SERKET Racing mission follow the team on Twitter and Facebook.
