SUMMARY: Joseph and Tara Saunders will become first-time homeowners this Labor Day weekend when SERKET Racing, Operation Homefront and Wells Fargo Capital Finance give away a home to the veteran family. On Saturday, August 31 at 3:00 p.m. ET the home will be presented to the Saunders family during the pre-race ceremony of the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila PatrĂ²n (ALMS) at the Grand Prix of Baltimore presented by SRT. The Grand Prix of Baltimore is a doubleheader event with the IZOD IndyCar Series and ALMS and brings a Celebration of Acceleration to Baltimore’s Inner Harbor with two of the most prominent racing series in the United States.

Saunders grew up in a military family and turned his pride into service in 2004 when he enlisted in the Army. He served at Osan Air Base on Korea, Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., and White Sands, N.M. Before being deployed to Iraq in 2006. Saunders suffered a back injury while deployed, which led to his medical discharge from active duty. Multiple military moves kept the Saunders family from finding a permanent home. While his active service ended early, he found a new way to serve by becoming a government employee at Ft. Meade in Maryland. He is also an ordained minister and hopes to one day follow in his father’s footsteps and be the pastor at his own church.
