A Stand Down Christmas Story

January 2nd, 2014

The halls of Stand Down House were a little more festive this year thanks to SERKET Racing driver Mark Llano.

Early in November Llano met with Stand Down founder Roy Foster at the organization’s annual Take Flight Awards Gala where the driver was awarded with the House Leadership Award. During the gala, Llano talked with Foster about the families currently in care at Stand Down House and was struck with the idea to do something special for them this Christmas. Llano sent the families over $500 in gift cards for the children, 500 shirts for the families and a Christmas tree to brighten up the house for the holidays.

Stand Down is an organization owned and operated by the Faith Hope Love Charity Inc. (FHLC Inc.). Through a multi-tiered program, transitional living and collaborative efforts, the organization strives to help veterans struggling with mental and physical wounds, illness, addictions, homelessness and/or other issues to regain their lives.

“We have known about the amazing work that Mr. Foster and his team at Stand Down House do for our veterans some time now,” Llano said. “We are honored to have had the opportunity to help support their mission during the holiday season.”

Foster echoed the former Marine’s thoughts as he equally admired Llano’s work for veterans and was grateful for the surprise Christmas gift.

“We are so thankful to SERKET Racing for their gracious donation to assist our needy veterans’ families and children,” Foster said. “With the Christmas holiday the spirit of giving is always good and uplifting, especially to those who have given their all to our country.”
